How to preserve handwriting without losing its character.
A recipe, note or signature does not need to be perfect. The small irregularities are usually the part worth protecting.
Turn handwriting into artworkCapture a clean, honest source
Use soft daylight
Photograph the page straight-on near a window, without a shadow across the writing.
Include the whole page
Keep the original edges in the first photo; crop only after there is a safe copy.
Do not “correct” it
Spelling, crossings-out and pressure changes can be part of the memory.
Choose restoration level
Keep paper texture for an archival feel or gently isolate the ink for a cleaner print.
Add restrained context
A name, date or one line about the source is usually enough.
Let the handwriting remain the hero
A recipe, signature, letter or child's drawing can stand alone, sit beside a short caption or become a repeated pattern. The artwork check flags likely resolution and contrast problems before approval.
