ORIGIN STORY / CHICHESTER
It started with a sign.
AntiRecreation grew out of the Chichester Anti-Recreation Partnership (CARP): a straight-faced one-person campaign using spoof civic signs to raise a smile and make local problems easier to talk about.
What began around Chichester became the visual language behind a wider store devoted to everyday British absurdity.
The Visitor Centre
The staff are in.
A small Department staff supervises your enjoyment of this website: a Carp with a rubber stamp, a clockwork mouse who tells the time, a moth with a lantern, and Doreen at the Complaints hatch. Meet them, collect stamps on a permit that means nothing, and keep the herons off the pond.
