The two it started with at the roots, everyone since on the branches. Type the names and the tree lays itself out — one child or eight, with partners, step-parents and the ones you want remembered.

Made properly
A family tree print is usually drawn by hand around one family's shape, which is why the big ones cost more and the odd ones need an email first. Ours is laid by a typesetter that measures every name against the paper, so any family fits the same sheet at the same price — and you watch it happen as you type.
- Room for all of them, at the price on the tin. Most family tree prints stop at six or nine names and sell a bigger family as a bespoke job. Ours takes eight branches, each with a partner and up to eight children — the names shrink and grow together until they fit, so a family of thirty costs what a family of five costs.
- Families as they actually are. Two nanas, a step-dad, a bonus mum, someone who is no longer here. Switch on the line about each branch and write what is true: a role, a pair of years, a word. Nobody has to be squeezed into Mum and Dad to fit the picture.
- Four ways to draw it. A painted oak with a leafy crown. A fine line drawing where the names do the work. Blossom, in your accent colours. Or no tree at all — the family chart, the generations in rows joined by hairlines, which suits a big family best. Six colourways, five kinds of lettering, five papers.

Questions
How many names fit?
Two at the roots, then up to eight branches, each with a partner and their children — comfortably thirty names, and the print stays readable because the whole sheet is set to the family you type. If it ever looks tight on screen, it will look tight on the wall, so try the family chart style, which has the most room.
What about step-families, or someone we have lost?
Write them in. A branch takes a name, a partner and their children, and the optional line about each branch is yours to use — "bonus mum", "1988 – 2019", "married at Kirkcudbright". There is no fixed mother-and-father slot anywhere in the design.
Can I add a new grandchild later?
Yes. Keep the link to your design and open it again when the family grows, change what you need and order another. Nothing is redrawn by hand, so a new name costs nothing but the print.
