Star sign gifts, with five designs for every sign

Most star sign gifts are the symbol and the dates on a mug. Ours start from the stories the constellations were named after: the bull that carried Europa off, the twins Castor and Pollux, the boy Ganymede pouring for the gods. Each of the twelve signs has five designs, sixty in all, and any of them can go on a T-shirt, hoodie, mug, tote bag, water bottle, card or wall print. They are all on our star signs page.
Check the sign first
The dates below are the usual ones, but they shift by a day from year to year because the Sun doesn't cross into each sign at the same moment every year. Grouped by element, which is how the designs are sorted too:
- Fire signs: Aries (about 21 March to 19 April), Leo (23 July to 22 August), Sagittarius (22 November to 21 December).
- Earth signs: Taurus (20 April to 20 May), Virgo (23 August to 22 September), Capricorn (22 December to 19 January).
- Air signs: Gemini (21 May to 20 June), Libra (23 September to 22 October), Aquarius (20 January to 18 February).
- Water signs: Cancer (21 June to 22 July), Scorpio (23 October to 21 November), Pisces (19 February to 20 March).
Someone born on the changeover day, "on the cusp", is still one sign or the other; which one depends on the year and sometimes the hour. If you aren't sure, open the birth chart print and type their date, time and place. The wheel draws itself as you type, with every position written out underneath, so you can see where the Sun was before you order anything.
Picking a design for the person, not just the sign
The five designs for each sign lean in different directions, so it helps to think about who is going to wear it:
- The myth, for someone who knows the stories: Taurus, Europa's Ride; Gemini, Castor and Pollux; Libra, Themis Holds These; Aquarius, Ganymede Pours.
- The stars themselves, for someone who also looks up: Taurus, Aldebaran's Eye (the bright orange star that marks the bull's eye), Taurus, Pleiades on Deck, and Virgo, Spica in Hand (Spica is the brightest star in Virgo).
- A dig at the sign's reputation, for someone who can take it: Scorpio, Everyone Suspects You; Virgo, Pack Snacks; Leo, Crown Yourself.
December birthdays
Sagittarius and Capricorn birthdays fall either side of Christmas, and people born then are used to one present being stretched to cover both. Something about their sign at least keeps the birthday its own thing. Capricorn starts at the winter solstice, and two of its designs lean into that: Shortest Day and Saturnalia, after the Roman midwinter festival. The Sea-goat is the old half-goat, half-fish figure the constellation was drawn as. For Sagittarius there is The Arrow Flies and Chiron Taught This, after the centaur.
When they already know their sign by heart
For someone properly into astrology, the Sun sign is the part they have heard enough about. Their Moon sign and rising sign are often different, and plenty of people feel those describe them better. The birth chart print casts all of it from the date, time and place of birth. One layout sets the Sun, Moon and rising signs in three roundels under the wheel, each with its constellation and a few words, as in the print above. The rising sign needs a birth time; our birth chart gift page explains where to find one in the UK. With only a date, the Moon print shows the Moon as it was that night.
Which format
Every sign design comes on unisex, women's and long-sleeve T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, tank tops, tote bags, mugs, water bottles and packs of ten greeting cards, and as a poster, canvas, acrylic, aluminium or framed print. The clothing pages have a size guide with measurements taken laid flat, which is worth checking if it's a surprise. A mug for their desk and a card with the same design is an easy pairing.
Everything is printed to order in the UK, and parcels go out with no receipt or invoice inside, so you can send it straight to them. The design page shows the current delivery estimate.
