A gift for someone who loves travelling: the places they've been

People who travel a lot often have the scratch map already, along with the guidebooks and the packing cubes. What's usually missing is a record of their own trips, in the order they took them, on one sheet. The travel map print is that: two to twelve places, numbered on one map, with the itinerary listed underneath.
How it works
Search for each stop and pick the right match from the list. Put them in order with the arrows beside each one; the numbers on the map and the list beneath change together. Then add a title, the dates and a line of your own. The map frames itself around the stops, so a week in the Highlands and a year round the world both fill the sheet, and a round-the-world trip stays one map rather than splitting at the edge.
Choosing the stops
- One big trip: the honeymoon, the gap year, the summer spent interrailing.
- Every place they have lived, in order.
- One stop a year: where they went each summer since they met.
Twelve is the limit, so for a lifetime of travel choose the trips they talk about, not every airport. The same place twice is fine: stops that are close together or repeated share one marker, and every visit still appears in the list. If a small place won't come up in the search, try the nearest town or add the country, such as "Oban, Scotland". The map covers anywhere between 80° north and 80° south.
The lines between them
Stops can be joined by curved arcs like a flight path, straight lines, dashes, or nothing. The lines connect the places in order; they don't trace the roads or flights actually taken, which is worth knowing if your traveller is the sort to check.
One place, or one long walk
For a single place, such as the town they lived in abroad, the map print shows the real streets with a marker on the spot. For a long walk or ride they recorded on a watch, the route print draws the actual line from the GPX file; our page of gifts for walkers explains where to get one.
For one holiday place rather than the whole journey, our Love From designs put the name of a single place on a T-shirt, mug or print: Rhodes, Menorca, Málaga, Lanzarote and Bangkok among them. Find your place lists the rest.
Moving abroad for good rather than travelling? See our gift for someone emigrating. For a partner who lives a long way off, the long distance relationship gift page puts both towns on one map.
The design can be reopened later from its link to add the next trip and order another. Like every print here, it is made in the UK after you approve the artwork, and the product page shows the current delivery estimate.
