Fuerteventura memories in sand and volcanic colour

Corralejo Natural Park lies in the north-east of Fuerteventura. Its northern area has a dune field, while the southern part contains red and ochre volcanic ground. These contrasting landscapes occur within the same park but give different views of the island. Further south, Cofete beach lies in Jandía Natural Park beneath the Jandía mountains. Its mountain setting is distinct from Corralejo's north-eastern dunes and volcanic colours.

Betancuria tells an inland story. Jean de Bethencourt founded it around fourteen oh four as the island's first capital. Its inland position was chosen for defence against pirates, and the settlement was later rebuilt after destruction. The town's history therefore includes both the choice of a defensive site and rebuilding there, rather than a continuous coastal-resort story. Betancuria's position gives another geographical reference within Fuerteventura, away from the named beach and dune landscapes.

At Tefía, La Alcogida Ecomuseum contains restored houses illustrating rural and artisan life. These buildings add domestic spaces and craft traditions to the island's recorded heritage. Gofio is part of the food heritage of the Aboriginal Majoreros, another connection with life on Fuerteventura beyond its beaches. Dunes at Corralejo, the mountain-backed shore at Cofete, inland Betancuria and the restored houses at Tefía give a holiday keepsake several particular island settings to recall.
