A West Highland Way gift from start to finish

The West Highland Way joins Milngavie with Fort William. An obelisk in Douglas Street marks the Milngavie start, and a walker statue in Gordon Square marks the Fort William finish. Between those endpoints, the route passes Conic Hill and descends to Balmaha before following the shore of Loch Lomond. A chain of islands in the loch marks the Highland Boundary Fault, giving the waterside setting a geological reference as well as a place on the walking route.

Further north, the Way crosses the edge of Rannoch Moor and passes Ba Bridge. Ruined Ba Cottage stands beyond the bridge, adding a surviving trace of habitation to the moorland section. An old military road leads past Black Rock Cottage. These named structures and roads identify different stages of the route rather than one continuous, unchanging Highland scene.

Near Altnafeadh, the Devil's Staircase zigzags upwards before the route descends towards Kinlochleven. Buachaille Etive Mòr stands near the entrance to Glen Etive, another particular mountain setting along the wider journey. The markers in Milngavie and Fort William frame a crossing that includes a loch shore, moorland, old roads and a zigzag climb. A gift for a West Highland Way walker can recall that sequence, or a named part of it shared with a walking companion.

Gift ideas: compare the West Highland Way designs below for a present about the route as a whole. The Where It Happened map print can mark the Milngavie start, the Fort William finish or a personal point from the walk. Check the chosen location against the walker's own story before completing the print. Also explore Love from West Highland Way, West Highland Way - Come On Then, Scotland.
