A baby's first Christmas gift that keeps the birth details

A personalised birth details print showing the Moon as it was on the night of the birth, above the baby's name and details

Most baby's-first-Christmas presents carry the year and a reindeer, and go back in the box with the decorations in January. A print of the birth itself can stay up all year. Our birth details print sets out the facts of the day the baby arrived, and you see the exact artwork before you order.

What goes on it

You type the name, the date, the time, the weight, the length and where they were born. The print works out the rest from the date: the day of the week, the star sign, the birthstone, the birth flower and the phase of the Moon that night. Weights and lengths print exactly as you type them, so 3.4 kg and 7 lb 8 oz both work. If the time or the length isn't known, leave it out; the sheet closes up around what is there rather than printing a gap.

A picture from the day

  • The birth-month flower, painted in gouache. A December baby gets holly, which suits a first Christmas without anything festive being added.
  • The Moon as it was that night, drawn from the real face of the Moon and named by its phase.
  • Drawn stems, a wreath around the name, or the words alone.

The painted backgrounds include frost and snowfall, if you want it to look wintry without saying "Christmas" on it.

Getting the details

Parents usually have the time and weight on the hospital wristband, in the red book, or in the message they sent round on the day. If you are buying as a grandparent, aunt or godparent, that message is the easiest source and doesn't give the surprise away.

Other ways to mark it

  • The Moon print needs only the date. One of our examples puts the Moon from each family member's birth night side by side, so the baby can join their parents on one sheet.
  • The star map print draws the sky over the place of birth. Without a time, it shows ten at night and prints the date alone.
  • The birth chart print casts the baby's astrological chart from the date, time and place, while the time is still on the wristband. Our birth chart gift page explains what goes on it.
  • Twins get one print each: make the first, keep the link, change the name, time and weight, and order the second so they match.

For the grandparents, and for the new parents

A first grandchild is also the moment a family tree gains a branch; our family tree gift for grandparents page explains how the new arrival is added. For the parents' own first Christmas as a family, the Established style of the family words print sets the family name, the year they became a family and everyone's names in a row.

Nothing is printed until you approve it, and each print is made to order in the UK, so look at the delivery estimate on the product page with Christmas in mind. See all new baby prints.
